WELCOME and INTRODUCTIONS: Vicki opened the meeting and welcomed new members Jackie
& Blakeney Stephens and Amy LeClair. Amy has recently moved here from Vermont.
REPORT ON THE ANIMAL SHELTER: Vicki reported that six adults and Blakeney enjoyed a Pet
Welfare Day at the animal shelter the day before and three adults volunteered today. She reported 26
dogs and 15 cats currently at the shelter. Vicki apologized for the last minute cancellation for last month’s
car show/shelter pet adoption event. She explained that the County Commission’s office had liability
concerns. She is optimistic that something can be worked out for the shelter to be open on some
Saturdays. Steve explained that making shelter pets more available for adoption is a work in
progress. Mrs. Toni added that we can still feature pets in the newspapers as well as photos featuring this
group’s efforts.
MINUTES AVAILABLE ONLINE: Vicki directed members to the FOTAS website for our meeting
minutes.
BRANDI CORBETT, SPEAKER ON TAKING THE GOLDEN TO THE RESCUE IN
BIRMINGHAM: Brandi explained that she felt compelled to help Goldie, the golden retriever who was
about to time out at the shelter. She reached out to Golden Retriever rescue groups and was able to take
Goldie to Adopt a Golden Rescue in Birmingham. Vicki thanked Brandi for finding Goldie this
wonderful opportunity and for transporting her to the Birmingham rescue. Vicki also thanked Jackie and
Blakeney for the time they spent with Goldie while she was at the shelter.
SIGN UP SHEETS: Vicki asked that members please use the sign-up sheets to register for Pet Welfare
Days. This will help ensure that new volunteers will have an experienced volunteer there so show them
the ropes.
TREASURE’S REPORT: Durel reported $1624.40 in the checking account and $5 in the Business
Membership account. He will pick up and deposit Alabama One’s $1000 donation tomorrow.
T-SHIRT INFORMATION: Brandi reported that the first t-shirt order is for approximately 25 shirts.
SOCIAL MEDIA REPORT: Steve reported that the FOTAS Facebook currently has 500 followers.
Those in attendance agreed that he should continue his featured stories on available and adopted pets.
Steve also explained that he will be using the FOTAS Forum section on the website for discussions and
encouraged everyone to participate.
