FOTAS Meeting
September 10, 2024
5:30pm Fayette Civic Center Prepared By Kim DodsonWelcome and Instructions – Vicki called meeting to order and introduced new
members Ashley, Johnny and Emma. She also welcomed back Jamie and Greg.
Report on the Animal Shelter – Currently 24 cats, 9 kittens, 6 adult dogs and 18
puppies. FOTAS members have over 300 volunteer hours at the shelter since the end
of May.
Expansion or Board with a new committee to work on Community Affairs and
Legislative Issues – Jackie Stephens agreed to chair: Members agreed that having
a presence at community meetings could be beneficial and could also development
relationships with community leaders. Vicki explained that she spoke to the Fayette
Garden Club recently and was appreciative of their support and met advocates for
FOTAS. She reported that she, Mrs. Toni and Jane Newman have an appointment with
the Probate Judge tomorrow. She also reported that results from recent poll of other
animal shelters found that Saturday is the busiest day of the week.
Replace chair of Volunteer Recruitment Committee – Laurie Newman to chair.
Laurie is currently recruiting volunteers for The Arts Festival on Saturday.
Treasurer’s Report – Durel reported $3794.27 in the checking account. He will be
paying $75 to the Civic Center for meeting space and will pay for the last T-shirt order.
T Shirt Information – Brandi expects the t-shirts to be available by the end of the week.
She had 23 t-shirts ordered and also ordered a few extras.
Social Media Report: Steve reminded members that our mission is to have no
homeless pets by making them adoptable by cleaning, socializing and featuring them.
He emphasized the importance to increase awareness and utilizing social media. He
reported approximately 80 new members within the past two weeks. Steve also noted
the need for assisting with lost pets and reminded members about the LOST and
FOUND option on the FOTAS website which uses geo-location as a measure to reunite
the pets and families. Steve also explained that the website has more views when “New
Pictures added” is mentioned.
Ashley recommended using QR Codes for FOTAS website &/or Facebook page. Steve
will add to the next order of business cards.
Steve mentioned, and members agreed, to post on social media FOTAS’ offer to assist
with animal welfare projects in our community.Updates:
Fall Art Festival, Kim Dodson to chair – Booth purchased and requesting volunteers
to man the booth.
Frog Level, Kim Dodson to chair – Kim reported that the Miscellaneous booths were
first come first serve, cost is $55. Committee agreed to see response from Arts Festival
before registering.
